Thefts of Catalyctic Converters

From Paul – our Deputy Co-ordinator –

Through my local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, I had the catalytic converter on my van security marked by the police this last week. This took place at Brackmills Industrial Estate, Northampton, took a few seconds after allowing the cat to cool down and you are then given two side window stickers and register your unique Cat Number with the International Security Register on line.

In the east of Northamptonshire, parts of Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, thefts of these cats is rife and the police believe that it is only a matter of time that these crimes spread further and they also believe that this secure marking is a deterrent. They are very keen to mark as many cats as possible here locally and believe me your cats are so easy for a thief to get at and extremely expensive for you to replace.

The police here in Northampton are geared up to handle about 60 of these secure markings a day but you do need to register and book a time slot to have your vehicle done. Marking sessions are advertised via Neighbourhood Watch and we will let you know of any dates.
